Odd special provisions

« Back to Previous Page

In our office we have a picture with a special provision in a lease that states that the Lessor has the right to be lowered head first down the well to investigate it! Can anyone beat this for a crazy special provision that they have seen?

Lessee shall keep its employees, agents, invitees, contractors and subcontractors from consuming alcohol, unprescribed drugs, hunting, fishing, picnicking off of a well location that is being worked on, searching for artifacts or arrowheads and carrying firearms or pets on the leased premises at all times. If the prior sentence is violated, Lessee will pay Lessor, the greater of such actual damages which Lessor may show that it suffered, or One Thousand Dollars for each violation, such latter sum being agreed to as liquidated damages because of difficulty of ascertaining the actual damages and the uncertainty thereof.
Lessee further agrees that any such prohibited paraphernalia is subject to confiscation by said Surface Owner, its agent or any officer of the law. Lessor and its authorized representatives will have the right at all times to inspect vehicles entering the Lease to ascertain that no prohibited persons or articles are being brought onto the Lease.
